Hair oil found its popularity in the coiled, curly and afro hair communities due to its deeply nourishing, moisture inducing benefits. But, no matter if you have fine, wavy or straight hair, there’s definitely a hair oil suited to your hair type that you can try.

What’s The Best Hair Oil?

Argan Oil

Perfect for most hair types, namely dry and fine, and those who want to see more growth

Argan Oil is definitely an oil for nearly all hair types to start experimenting with! It’s lightweight so won’t weigh even fine hair down, and is loaded with antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamin E which can help improve hair’s strength, boost hair follicle activity, promote cell regeneration and thus encourage hair growth and help build a more resilient, healthier mane.

Coconut Oil

Perfect for frizzy, tangled hair

Coconut oil is perfect for hair that’s frizzy and needs it’s sleek and shine back! Try coating your hair in coconut oil as a pre-shampoo and leave for 10-15 minutes. The essential fatty acids in coconut oil will coat the hair before you wash it normally. If you have brittle hair, be careful not to over use coconut oil as excessive protein levels may cause it to break. Once a week is plenty!

Jojoba Oil

Perfect for dry, dehydrated, damaged and chemically treated hair

Jojoba has been celebrated for centuries because of it’s undeniable moisturising properties that people have used on their skin as well as their hair. Jojoba oil is able to penetrate the hair shaft and instead of coating the hair, it deeply hydrates, nourishes and helps restore the hair from beneath it’s surface.

Castor Oil

Perfect for sensitive scalps, dandruff-prone hair and those looking to spark hair growth

Castor oil is highly popular in the hair care world. That’s because it’s packed with ricinoleic acid; a natural anti-inflammatory. When massaged into the scalp it can increase circulation, which fuels the hair follicles with nutrients from the blood flow. Castor oil helps lock in strand and scalp moisture too, as well as attracts dirt and oil which actually helps to cleanse the hair follicles by drawing dirt and excess oil away, and thus increases the absorption of other products and their ingredients!

Manketti Oil

Great for brittle, weak, heat-damaged hair

Manketti (or Mongongo Oil) is fairly similar to Argan oil in its make up, but arguably denser in nutrients, fat and protein which can help rejuvenate weak, damaged hair. This oil can help hair feel and look stronger, softer and shinier whilst also contributing to protecting it from further external and environmental damage.

Almond Oil

Great for easily-tangled hair and those with split-ends

Almond oil is an emollient which means it can pad hair strands out that have damage or gaps. This will result in hair feeling and looking sleeker and also may result in an easier brushing, combing and styling experience as almond oil helps diminish the friction experienced when styling. It improves hair’s strength and resilience as it is packed with Vitamin E and natural antioxidants which can help provide rejuvenation and some protection against impactful environmental factors (like pollution and sun damage).

Do not use almond oil if you have a known nut allergy.

Eucalyptus Oil

Great for itchy scalps and those wanting to encourage hair growth

If you’re wondering “what does eucalyptus oil do for hair?”, research suggests a lot! It can improve the overall health of hair whilst stimulating the hair follicles which in turn promotes hair growth. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties it can also reduce scalp inflammation, reduce the likelihood of dandruff and thus help improve the hair growth environment. It’s also a popular treatment for head lice!

The only rule for eucalyptus oil is that you can’t use it purely. You’ll need to mix a few drops in with a carrier oil that will help dilute it. A carrier oil can be coconut, almond or olive oil for example.
